Jazzbirds Bucharest
Dance school from Bucharest, Romania, approaching jazz from a contemporary perspective – Ioana and Mihai bring methodologies from other art fields to weave new ways of exploring the universe of jazz dance and music. They intertwine the study of historical foundations of swing dancing with instruments for developing body awareness and individual expression, as inspired by other performance and contemporary dance practices. When facilitating contexts for learning, they aspire to a sense of conviviality as practice for life and dance. They encourage openness, in depth curiosity and search for the poetry (within and around). With a main interest in the vernacular roots of the dance, they focus on musicality and improvisation by preparing challenging practices and ways of encounter through dance. Jazzbirds organizes dive & blossom - an intensive learning event reflecting the schedule of a regular festival, but focused on the practice and vision of one or two guest dancers.
