Betina Fischer

I am Betina Fischer, founder and owner of the Sunny Side Swing Studio in Darmstadt/Germany - the city’s first dance school dedicated exclusively to Lindy Hop. I´ve been teaching Jazz dances since 2010 and have operated my own studio since 2020. I learned various styles in camps and private lessons with international instructors, with whom I also discussed dance history and teaching methodologies. My classes and events are characterized by warmth, creativity, structure, and respect for the roots of jazz. In addition to regular classes, I organize both small-scale gatherings and major annual events, including the DA SOLO JAZZ Festival, DA SHAG, DA BLUES, and DA LINDY WKND. To conserve environmental and human resources, I increasingly collaborate with local partners and institutions. At the same time, to ensure authentic representation and foster awareness of jazz’s origins, I prioritize inviting Black American artists and generally favor underrepresented groups in my selection process.
